What is the Consistency Check in Accord Designer?

I made some changes to a project after doing a synchronisation and now it won't let me download. It's asking me to do a Consistency Check first. What is this and why is it needed?

The Consistency Check validates that the process model is internally consistent before a download is attempted. If the model has been modified in a way that introduces inconsistencies (e.g. after a Project Synchronisation), it must pass the Consistency Check before a download can proceed.
